What’s one habit that has improved your life the most?
Writing consistently has improved my life and expanded my experiences. I am more open and yet more focused. Writing has become my passion and also a lifesaver. Worlds open with the stroke of a pen, a press on the keyboard. Like a drug, I crave the sensation of breathing life into the characters that spring from my imagination.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Oh my goodness! The answer to that question has changed over the years. Paris was the place I felt at home. I seemed to know my way around without using a map. I wanted to kiss everyone! The vibe was so perfect. But that changed. The last time I saw Paris, there was a feeling of chaos and sadness.
Scotland felt like home. My ancestors fought and died on its soul. I left my true love’s ashes in the heather on a hill, along with a piece of my heart. But it isn’t home.
I would love to live where the weather is a perfect 72 degrees, it only rains at night while I sleep, the sun shines and all is well. But, that fantasy doesn’t exist.
I would like to live in a place close to my children and grandchildren. The fact is they are spread out across the world so I can dream on. I am living in the city I was born in, which is a place I will probably never permanently leave. It is home.
I am new at this blogging thing. Been reading what pops up and weighing what resonates. Picking a favorite is an interesting topic and I assume it will generate a great deal of interest in the chosen blogs. But, for now, I’m still lurking in the background.
There are a few blogs I have subscribed to follow because I liked something about them, or hit some button, but I am not ready to form a judgement.
So far, everyone I have visited has added some insight to ponder. Blog on! You may become my favorite!
What’s the best way to deal with negative thoughts
Dealing with negativity has been a lifelong exercise. It started when I was in first grade. My way of handling it then was to vomit. That would usually get me out of whatever it was that was causing the negative feelings. It got sympathy and kindness. I wasn’t looking for validation. I was looking for escape. Vomiting worked.
As I got older, the negativity was handled with getting a headache. You can’t go anywhere or do anything if you have a migraine pounding. That worked but was pretty painful escapism.
As I got older, I got a little smarter. Negativity comes in many forms, words, actions, non-actions. If thoughts ventured into the darker tones, I would take that thought and put it on paper. View it from as many angles as possible. I would try to identify the words or actions that caused the negative thoughts and see whether they were valid. I was no longer a helpless victim but a proactive participant in what I allowed in my life.
